Carnivorous House Plants
Love plants but you're not a fan of watering them? If you love nature, but hate watering plants, carnivorous plants are for you! We have a great selection that includes venus fly traps, pitcher plants and sundew plants.
Which Bug Eating Plants do Best Indoors?
Carnivorous plants typically grow in wet, boggy soil. They evolved to get their nutrients from bugs and insects because they had a tough time surviving. These plants are good to have in your home, particularly in the summertime when every bug under the sun seems to get inside!
Why are Carnivorous Plants so Awesome?
They're low-maintenance; they can actually eat pesky bugs around your home; and they can get your kids into plants!
Are Carnivorous Plants Hard to Take Care of?
No - not at all! These plants only need a few things to thrive; bright light, water (they like "wet feet" but don't like standing water), soil that is low in nitrogen (nitrogen can be found in fertilizers), and bugs/insects (they need to eat too!).
A note about water for carnivorous plants: The water required for a carnivorous plant is rain water, distilled water, or run off water. In a pinch bottled water once is ok. Always water from the bottom up is our suggested preference.
The Right Soil for Carnivorous Plants
As with any plant, the right soil mix is important for healthy growth in carnivorous plants. We'll help you put together the right peat moss, perlite, and horticulture sand. That's just the start! We have all sorts of advice to keep your carnivorous plants happy and healthy.
Rotate Your Carnivorous Plants
Why? Because plants tend to "lean in" toward the sun, moving them to different spaces in your home will help your indoor plants stand up straight.
